I just wanted you to know that you’re my new hero. I like Gibson and Stross and Stephenson and all them, but if you were in the stores I totally buy your stuff first. Lets see some more production over there. My word belly is growling.
Thanks Ben! I am glad you liked my stuff so much. This fires me up for my current project, Novel Number 3. It’ll be a few months yet but it’s going well so far.
If your word belly gets on your nerves in the meantime I have a few short pieces coming up for Gupter Puncher and Year Zero (see sidebar for links) in the next month or so.
“Word Belly” is a temendous phrase, by the way!
Hey Marc!
I just wanted to thank you for putting out Tokyo Zero and This Unhappy Planet.
I am fascinated by your use of language, in your descriptions and metaphors and the sheer brilliance of describing things in such a bizarre and enthralling way that I feel as if I would read anything you write on any subject just to get at the astonishingly juicy nuggets illuminated by the lens of your imagination.
Rock on.
I found your books through an app on my Android phone, WordPlayer, which conveniently has links to a bunch of creative commons fiction, and I enjoyed the hell out of them.
What’s the best way to throw money at you?
Seriously, you have some of the most fascinating turns of phrase that I’ve ever read.
Christopher,
Thanks for reading and thanks for the kind words. I can’t help writing in this bizarre way, so I am glad there are people out there who get it.
If you REALLY think you would read anything by me, you can check out !Gupter Puncher Magazine! (see sidebar) where I have been writing short fiction lately.
Since you already have the books, maybe you could leave a review over on Amazon? Or you could send a donation over to relief in Pakistan, if that is a cause you can get behind [http://bit.ly/aAVnuj]
Either way, thanks for the comment, spread the word and look out for novel number 3 early 2011!
Marc
Hi Marc,
Thank you for your truly exiting and thrilling Tokyo Zero story! I enjoyed it very much, downloaded it from feedbooks, transferred it to my Kindle and GO! Wonderful, made me remember the undergroung attack and placing it in a complete new setting.
I am going to post an article about Tokyo Zero. I’m also certain that a lot of my readers would love to know what a writer motivates to give his books away in an absolute commercial society!
Thank you for stopping by to comment. I’m very glad you enjoyed “Tokyo Zero.”
I think there is space for commercial fiction – a huge space for it, like we have all these TV shows. I think also that if all literature has to pass through multiple commercial filters – even though there is no longer the justification of the whole book manufacturing and distribution chain – then we are losing something to an unnecessary process of targeting and optimization.
I look forward to reading your article!
Marc
I just ripped through Tokyo Zero and This Unhappy Planet and thoroughly enjoyed the reads. You are a stellar wordsmith and the metaphorical and verbal treatment you give the many subtle observations and minutiae of life is fantastic. I look forward to future projects and can definitely see you getting more famous than you might enjoy in the future. Cheers!
Thanks Seward! I hope to have a new project ready this year full of the ol’ verbal treatments. I’m glad you liked both the books.
Hey Marc! I haven’t read your novels I am too bitter and jealous as I haven’t even finished my first one yet.
Also, you get really nice comments from people whereas on my blog people tell me I am a ‘sick individual’ and my writing is ‘vile’ and I am a ‘rapist by proxy’.
This irks me somewhat.
I blame you.
No. No I don’t. But you know. Maybe if I write nice things about your writing I will help restore the karmic balance?
There is something about the imagery in the stories/pieces I have read that is very cinematic. And also very American. But maybe seeing America as you do with a foreigners eyes. And, underneath the fast talking and the surreal images there is something much deeper. I don’t know. A sadness maybe or just a clear way of looking at the world. I think you’d be a fun drinking companion.
